Typical

Rankings mean nothing until league play starts. Today is a perfect example. See our thoughts below on the top 25 action for Saturday.

1. UCLA: as we noted, UCLA would make or break their hype in away games. Today they broke. If UNC wins tomorrow vs. FSU then we will have a new #1 team.

3. Florida: solid win today, but at home. They will move up for certain, but let's see how they do in the SEC, when they are not playing on their floor. NOTE: we think they are the team to beat in the SEC, and will only lose 1 or 2 in league play. Key word: confidence. And lots of it.

4. Wisconsin: won today at home against mediocre Minnesota. Once again, league play on the road will prove their strength.

5. Duke: loss today at home to Virginia Tech is a bad omen to start ACC play. Check out Washington (see picture above) jumping OVER Paulus for a dunk in the second half. Most certainly is a SportsCenter highlight. Duke cannot run for 40 minutes with only two decent players. Does anyone else but us think Coach Cryzewski will feign another back problem (needing immediate sugery) again this year and blame all losses on Wojo?

6. OSU: Oden with 15 rebounds? Manchild. Dominant.

7. Arizona: bye-bye top 10.

8. Alabama: what happened?? Very unimpressive outing. You can't be down by 29 at the end of the first half and claim a top 10 ranking. Lots of work ahead for them. Would hate to be at their practice tomorrow. DE-FENSE!! DE-FENSE!!

11. Texas A&M: should have won this game by 15, not 4. Especially at home.

12. OSU: frankly, we are very surprised that this game was as close as it was. Outscored 53-44 in the second half. Did we overestimate this team's abilities?

13. Butler: they win big. Will move up in the rankings. Should be top 10.

14. UConn: LSU is a very good team. UConn will fall into the 20's. LSU should move up 5 or 6 spots.

15. Nevada: Idaho was 2-11 coming into this game. No real surprise that Nevada took them down, but the Wolf Pack needs to step it up in the second half. Remember the scare they had at Akron?

16. Air Force: they were for real last year and are better this year. Off to their best start EVER. Who knew? We did.

17. Oregon: The Ducks prove they belong in the top 15 with home win over top ranked UCLA.

18. Clemson: we think the Tigers will falter once they hit the road. Their frenetic offense will work against them. They need to play some defense.

19. LSU: underranked. Second half against UConn was their coming-out statement. They should be ranked in the low teens.

20. Washington: Huskies need to work on starting strong.

22. Notre Dame: Georgetown just schooled them today. They dunked all over them. Again another pratice we would not want to witness tomorrow. Of course, how can you defend a team that jumps out of the gym?

Others.

Appalachian State: need to be in the top 25.

NC State: needs to stop the bleeding.

Texas Tech: in the top 25 next week. We guarantee it, or your money back.
