Despite the pic above of Virginia Tech's Deron Washington trying to tear down the backboard on this dunk, the Hokies lost to Virginia to fall into a three-way tie for second place in the ACC. See our comments below:

2. UCLA: at #13 Washington State. UCLA will rule the boards but Washington State will pull off the upset. The Cougars have only lost 1 at home this season. We called the upset but did not get it. Everyone keeps talking about the Bruins as the best team in the country, but we stay unconvinced. Why? Well, they aren't deep; they have trouble rebounding; they are young (not one senior on this team); and they sport a small line-up. They will probably be a #1 seed in the Big Dance, but they will struggle and advance to the Sweet Sixteen before losing.

7. Memphis: at UTEP. The Tigers should win this game and extend their winning streak to 18. But will they win? Yes.They did win. Memphis is a damn good team that should advance to at least the Great Eight. They could even be in the Final Four. But, they will not win the National Championship this year.

8. UNC: at Georgia Tech. The Heels beat Tech by 16 last time out at Chapel Hill, but both teams are struggling a bit and looking for a big win. Lots of freshmen playing in this game. Our call? Carolina wins by less than 5. Maybe even OT. Carolina is slipping badly. We have yet to know why Ol' Roy didn't start Ty Lawson in this game, but that was the reason the Heels lost. Good but not great Georgia Tech went on a devastating run in the first half that UNC couldn't overcome. Without Lawson in the lineup, Carolina struggles. The Tar Heels must beat Duke at home on Sunday and go very far in the ACC Tournament to get a number one seed in the NCAA Tourney. Right now they are looking at a number two seed in the West.

9. Nevada: at Utah State. Utah State has not lost at home this season, but they cannot duel it out with a strong Nevada team. The Wolf Pack wins. We were wrong, but what a great game! Utah State wins in OT by 2.

21. Virginia Tech: at #25 Virginia. Big game. Both teams are tied with UNC for first place in the ACC. Tech killed the Cavaliers by 27 in their last meeting. Virginia must share and shoot well this game. We think they will, and that the Cavs will win. The Cavs did win, and they, for now, have sole ownership of first place in the ACC. Unless they lose their game on Saturday to Weak Forest, the Cavs will be the the ACC regular-season champs. How did they beat the Hokies? Sharing the ball and 3-pointers. Virginia has an awesome backcourt in Sean Singletary and JR Reynolds. Those two guys may take the Cavs to an ACC Championship. Unlike most of the guard combos in ACC teams, these guys are experienced.

24. USC: at Washington. No contest. The Huskies do well at home, but don't look for an upset here as USC wins. The basketball gods certainly humbled us tonight as we missed another one. We did mention the Huskies were good at home, and they definitely were tonight as they rained down ten 3-pointers on USC to completely dominate this game. Washington better enjoy this win because they face everyone's favorite UCLA on Saturday.

One top-25 game on Friday.

11. Southern Illinois: host Drake. Drake can score. That's not a problem for the Bulldogs (why is it that most teams in the MVC are named after canines?). The big problem for Drake is that they have are horrendous defensively. They aren't terrible offensively, and they share the ball pretty well, but they just let other teams score on them. The Salukis (hound dogs) have won 11 straight, and they will beat the Bulldogs in this game. NOTE TO PETA: no actual bulldogs or hound dogs will be present or abused in this game.

Wij zullen in met u morgen controleren.
