Sure, they're ranked number 17, but Butler tonight proved once again that they are not good by losing to Wright State in the Horizon Tourney championship game. While Wright State (the Raiders) are not all that bad in conference, the Horizon is a joke, and if Butler can't dominate against teams like Illinois-Chicago, then how in the world can they compete in the NCAA Tourney?
How did Butler end up ranked so high? Well, early in the season they had some very big wins. Notre Dame, Indiana, Tennessee, and Gonzaga (before the "mushroom incident") all fell to the Bulldogs. But, that was before the ball dropped and we entered 2007. Since then they have been 14-5 against teams who rank in the bottom of the NCAA (exception would be their loss to then-#15 Southern Illinois). So, why have they stayed in the top-25? Easy--everyone loves the underdog.
Well, love them while you can because they are really an underdog now and will be lucky to grab a 15 or 16 seed in the Big Dance. We think they are NIT material.
Who else is in?
Oral Roberts (23-10)
North Texas (23-10)
We will break down the rest of the conference tournaments tomorrow night and tell you who else will get automatic bids.
Several conferences have first-round games on Wednesday, but we'll wait and see how those games play out before we give any analysis.
Oh, and we will also let you know tomorrow why Duke will pick up a 4 or 5 seed in the NCAA Tourney despite their losing ways.
Vi ser De på Onsdag.
